Professional Respect: Nurturing a Culture of Courtesy in the Workplace

How do we define respect? The simplest way to my mind is “we should treat others in the way we would like to be treated”.

What are the manifestations of respect in professional life? Some come to my mind as follows - Responding to requests coming from colleagues positively as much as we can and offering them a proper explanation if we are not able to meet their requirement.

Taking care to explain ourselves when we are seeking something out of turn. Taking due care in our verbal and written communication, to be respectful. Dealing with mistakes and omissions patiently and with understanding, with an objective to improve the situation for future.

Can we think of other ways in which respect becomes visible in professional settings?
